It runs smoothly and quietly, and comes with clear instructions for setup. The convenient and fast blade changing system is a plus point, as is the auto tension adjustment for the blade installation. However, the saw is not recommended for cutting very thick boards, as it does not have the power to do so. The machine also vibrates at the highest speed, but this can be fixed with sound deadner, or by buying the more expensive 21in Jet model. It is recommended to bolt the saw to a table for stability, but bolts are not included. Feeding the blade through the table top is also inconvenient, as there is no slot cut through to the front of the table, meaning that it has to be done underneath. Additionally, connecting the blade under the table is tricky as it is not held in securely and pops out frequently, and the blade holder requires an adjustment which would be easier if a hex wrench was included. Overall, the JET JWSS-18B is a solid choice of scroll saw for serious hobbyists and professionals alike, with its high-quality performance and convenient features.
