Nutritionist's Take
Tums Smooth Dissolve Chewable Tablets are primarily designed for rapid relief of heartburn and acid indigestion. Each tablet contains calcium carbonate, which not only acts as an antacid but also serves as a dietary source of calcium, beneficial for bone health. However, while they provide quick relief, the high sugar content and artificial flavoring in the assorted fruit variants may pose concerns for those monitoring sugar intake or with dietary restrictions. Additionally, overuse may mask underlying gastrointestinal issues. For individuals with specific dietary needs, such as those on a low-sodium or low-sugar diet, these tablets may not be the best option. Overall, while Tums can be effective for occasional heartburn, they should not substitute for a holistic approach to digestive health and are best used in moderation.
