Drama Editorial Review
The editorial review of "Vision Quest" highlights the authenticity and heartwarming quality of the movie, which was adapted from a Young Adult novel by a former high school wrestling coach. The plot revolves around a working-class student's determination to wrestle in a lower weight class and take on the state's toughest wrestler. The movie is set in Spokane, Washington and realistically portrays small family houses, local schools, and clubs. The film's soundtrack features mainstream rock acts like Journey, and the plot avoids the cliches of 80's movies with normal-looking characters who are not overly hip. The movie includes an appealing romantic subplot and excellent acting from the cast, including Michael Schoeffling, Linda Fiorentino, and Forest Whitaker. The training for the wrestling scenes in the movie was grueling and is portrayed realistically. The movie ultimately deals with the need for focus, determination, and confidence in life. Though some viewers would have preferred more special features on the Blu Ray release, the movie is a forgotten classic.
