The Dewalt 734 Planer is a reliable machine with a good price point. While the blades can dull quickly with harder woods and painted boards, the ability to make multiple passes on tough materials without bogging down the motor makes it a good choice for a woodworking enthusiast. There is some snipe, as is typical with any planer, but this can be reduced by taking a very minimal cut on the final pass, supporting the material flat against the tables, and using a silicon-type lube. The Dewalt DC9096 and DC9099 batteries are interchangeable and fit the planer.
