It adds just enough flex to avoid undue wear on the brass leadscrew nut and reduces wear and tear. However, if used on a vertical axis, a spacer needs to be created to fit between the shaft ends to avoid compressing the coupler. One customer noted that only one of the couplers was properly sized, requiring them to bore out one of the holes.
