What is the range of the microphone? How far away from the front of the mike will it pick up good sound?
Answer: It depends on your definition of 'good sound'. I wouldn't use this any more than 12' from the person's mouth. Even at 12' you are losing some of the voice to background sounds. It's no different than other omni-directional mics. They are more forgiving than uni-directional mics, but if you are trying to get further from your subject then you really need to be looking at decent shotgun mics. The main advantage of this type of mic is that you can position it about midway between you and your subject and not need to keep moving it quite so much when each is talking. These also pick up the ambient sounds in a non-distracting way that actually adds to the interview making it more natural. -
