- A beautiful novel about gratitude, highlighting the importance of expressing thanks to those who have helped us in life.
- The story unfolds through the alternating voices of Marie and Jérôme, both connected through their relationship with Michka Seld, an elderly woman in her last months of life.
- Marie reflects on her debt of gratitude towards Michka, who cared for her in her mother's absence when she was a child.
- Jérôme, a speech therapist, works to help the elderly Michka regain her speech, which has been impaired by aphasia due to her age.
- The narrative, written in a restrained and almost austere style, explores themes of memory, aging, kindness, and gratitude towards significant figures in our lives.
- The intertwining stories of the three unforgettable characters emphasize the importance of expressing gratitude towards those who have made a difference in our lives.
